Basketball Recap: Swansboro Piles Up the Points Against Dixon

Swansboro's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They really took it to the Dixon Bulldogs for the full four quarters, racking up a 57-27 victory. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 27 points or more this season.

Swansboro found their leader in sophomore Addison King, who went 7 of 14 en route to 16 points along with seven boards and five steals. King is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last three games she's played. Kendall Hackworth was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals.

Swansboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Despite the loss, Dixon saw an underclassman step up: freshman Lily Borden posted 13 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kailei Dawsey, who scored two points and 16 boards.

Swansboro is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Dixon, they dropped their record down to 3-14 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Swansboro will challenge West Carteret at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Carteret will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Swansboro surely won't give up without a fight. As for Dixon, they will face off against White Oak at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
