Baseball Recap: Green River Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Panguitch, Green River was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Wayne Badgers 3-2. This was payback for the Pirates, who suffered a 2-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Rolando Anguiano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jason Hernandez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. That run was his first of the season. Cristian Mendoza was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Green River's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Wayne, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Coming up, Green River will head out on the road to challenge Piute at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Wayne, they will venture away from home to face off against Altamont at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Longhorns will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Badgers surely won't give up without a fight.
