Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Portland). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 68-65 win over the Sycamore War Eagles on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Portland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nate Honeycutt led the charge by going 9 for 13 on his way to 22 points and three steals. The contest was Honeycutt's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keilen Dalton, who went 9 of 11 on his way to 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Portland was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Sycamore lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Lucas Morris, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Hicks Hunter, who posted ten points.

Portland's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10. As for Sycamore, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Portland will take on Station Camp at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: Portland has lost three straight at home , while Station Camp has lost three on the road. As for Sycamore, they will host Pearl-Cohn at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th.
