Basketball Game Preview: Pius X Thunderbolts vs. Elkhorn South Storm

The Pius X Thunderbolts will challenge the Elkhorn South Storm at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Pius X is returning to their home court after beating Elkhorn North on theirs, despite the fact Elkhorn North has dominated at home this season. Pius X secured a 64-59 W over Elkhorn North on Tuesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Thunderbolts' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Elkhorn North are ranked fourth).

Meanwhile, Elkhorn South entered their tilt with Omaha Central on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 55-41 win over the Eagles.

Elkhorn South is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for Pius X, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6.

Everything went Pius X's way against Elkhorn South when the teams last played back in December of 2023, as Pius X made off with a 74-54 win. Does Pius X have another victory up their sleeve, or will Elkhorn South turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
