Recap: Manzano Monarchs vs. Albuquerque Academy Chargers
The Manzano Monarchs struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Tuesday (the Albuquerque Academy Chargers were 21% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Manzano was the victim of a rough 59-35 defeat at the hands of Albuquerque Academy. Manzano has not had much luck with Albuquerque Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Manzano had strong showings from Hen?kaiazia Shorter, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds, and Daira Solis, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Albuquerque Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lily Skarsgard, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Sprately, who scored nine points along with 17 rebounds.
Manzano now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Albuquerque Academy, they pushed their record up to 1-0 with that victory, which was their third straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manzano will square off against Belen at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Belen is ranked 45th, while Manzano is ranked 56th). As for Albuquerque Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Laguna Acoma at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
