Basketball Recap: New Prairie Comes Up Short

New Prairie was the 49-48 winner over South Central when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The New Prairie Cougars took a 57-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Central Satellites on Saturday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, New Prairie saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brody Wiginton went 9 for 14 en route to 20 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Braden Bachmann, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Jay Huerta was his usual excellent self, going 8 of 18 on his way to 20 points and six boards for South Central. Brody Grass was another key player, putting up 11 points.

New Prairie's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for South Central, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the New Prairie Cougars face off against the Elkhart Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for South Central, they will challenge Morgan Township at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.8 points per game this season.
