Baseball Recap: Lafayette Comes Up Short

Lafayette dropped to 20-10 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Pontotoc Warriors, falling 9-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Commodores have suffered since March 13, 2025.

Lafayette saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Easton Thompson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Pontotoc, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-13-1. They not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 10th (when they won 12-0).

On Pontotoc's side, Corbyn Clayton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Pontotoc got a massive performance out of Walker Chrestman, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave Chrestman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cayson Witcher, who went 4-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

As of now, neither Lafayette nor Pontotoc have any future games scheduled.
