Basketball Game Preview: West Prairie Cyclones vs. Mendon Unity Mustangs

The West Prairie Cyclones will square off against the Mendon Unity Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

West Prairie's tournament run continued when they took on Monmouth United back in December of 2024. West Prairie took a 75-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Monmouth United.

Despite the defeat, West Prairie saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Braden Coplan went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 27 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Clark, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, Mendon Unity didn't have quite enough to beat Liberty on Wednesday and fell 79-76. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (62), the Mustangs still had to take the loss.

Mendon Unity's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for West Prairie, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.

West Prairie didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Mendon Unity when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 60-56 victory. Does West Prairie have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mendon Unity turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
