Softball Recap: Penns Manor Finds Playoff Glory Versus Northern Cambria

With a playoff win on the line, Penns Manor rose to the challenge on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over the Northern Cambria Colts. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Comets have posted since April 23, 2024.

Allie Rhea made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over ten innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off two hits. Rhea was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Sydney Luther and Joss Bennet did most of the damage at the plate: Luther went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Bennet went 2-for-5 with three runs and one stolen base. Those two stolen bases gave Luther a new career-high. Kadence Olbert was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

The win made it two in a row for Penns Manor and bumps their season record up to 8-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Northern Cambria, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-13.

As of now, neither Penns Manor nor the Colts have any future games scheduled.
