Volleyball Recap: Cabrillo Extends Winning Streak to Three

Cabrillo waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Santa Maria Saints with a sharp 3-0 win. That's the fourth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 3-1 win on April 1st.

While Cabrillo won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-18, 25-22.

Matias Salguero paced Cabrillo's offense, picking up 11 kills. Salguero got some help from Cody Lawton and his 23 assists. Lawton was also solid from the service line: he led the team with five aces.

Cabrillo's victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Santa Maria, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-22.

Cabrillo and Santa Maria will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matches. The next time the Conquistadores see the court they'll take on Pioneer Valley at 6:00 p.m. on the 29th. As for Santa Maria, their break will end when they face Mission College Prep at 5:30 p.m. on the 29th.
