CHICAGO — So who is going to win the 38th annual McDonald's All American boys game? How will they do it? Who will be the MVP?

The Game

Of course you look at the East team and think with all of its top-tier talent, it will win. They have the nation's top two recruits Ben Simmons and Jaylen Brown, the slam dunk winner Dwayne Bacon and the 3-point shooting champ Luke Kennard.

And I know, the East won the scrimmage by more than 20 points.

But after watching the West practice, I think they might have a little more cohesion. At least at practice, they play more as a team. They way they run the high pick-and-roll, which opens up a lot of backdoor plays and mid-range jumpers, I think the West has the edge.

The other consideration is that many of the East players — Simmons (Montverde Academy) and Brown (Wheeler-Marietta, Ga.) and Bacon (Oak Hill Academy-Mouth of Wilson, Va.) are all playing in the Dick's National tournament Thursday through Saturday, so how hard will they go? I think that's a big consideration.

Who will win MVP?

If the East does win, I think it might be Antonio Blakeney. He's really been getting out on the break. No matter what, he'll lead the games in dunks. … But if the West wins, as I expect, then I think Malik Newman will win. He'll have the ball in his hands the majority of time and he's such a lethal scorer. Watch out for Caleb Swanigan. I predict he'll lead the game in rebounds with at least 15. If he gets a lot of inside points, he could win it too.
