Softball Recap: River Valley Dust Devils vs. Winslow Bulldogs
River Valley was the 3-1 winner over Winslow when they last played one another back in April of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. The Dust Devils fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 6-5 on Wednesday. That's two games in a row now that the Dust Devils have lost by just one run.
Cherity Gonzalez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan MacDonald, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.
This is the second loss in a row for River Valley and nudges their season record down to 16-6-1. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Winslow, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 17-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. River Valley will face off against ALA - West Foothills at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Guardians will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Dust Devils surely won't give up without a fight. As for Winslow, they will take on Show Low at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Cougars have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
