Basketball Recap: Springfield Takes a Loss

Springfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 65-60 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mineral Ridge Rams. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by exactly five points.

Despite the loss, Springfield still got an impressive performance from Jameka Brungard, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 17 rebounds. Brungard's afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Regan Rogenski, who posted eight points.

It was another big night for Ava Hulett, who put up 21 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals for Mineral Ridge. Hulett is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sullivan Sandy, who had 12 points.

Springfield's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 5-7. As for Mineral Ridge, their record now sits at 7-3.

Springfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 41-32 victory against Salem on the 9th. As for Mineral Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 72-8 win against Memorial on the 7th.
