Baseball Recap: Midland Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Midland waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Seneca Fighting Irish by a score of 9-6. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-6 on Monday.

Rayden Marlere made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off 11 hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Midland let Sam Lord and Henry Elsasser run wild. Lord went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Elsasser went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Elsasser has become a key player for Midland: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Gabe Pyles, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Midland's record now sits at 8-5. As for Seneca, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-9.

Coming up, Midland is taking a road trip to square off against Henry-Senachwine at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Seneca, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Somonauk at 10:00 a.m.
