Baseball Recap: Malone Gets the Win

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Malone and Bethlehem, and Malone kept the tradition alive. The Tigers came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 7-4 on Tuesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 24-1 on Tuesday.

Kris Smith made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Khalil Garrett and Hoke Harkrider did most of the damage at the plate: Garrett scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Harkrider scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Garrett has become a key player for Malone: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-8 otherwise.

Malone's record is now 6-9. As for Bethlehem, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Malone will venture away from home to face off against Sneads at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Bethlehem, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Bethlehem Wildcats challenge Gadsden County Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. They are facing Gadsden County at the right time seeing as Gadsden County is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
