Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Powdersville). They blew past the Palmetto Mustangs 103-58 on Friday. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Mustangs are ranked 163rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Powdersville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Quan Burton led the charge by going 11 for 17 en route to 24 points. The match was Burton's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Von Burton, who went 9 of 11 on his way to 22 points.

Powdersville was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Xaden Stokes, who went 7 for 14 en route to 18 points and seven boards. Maj Mccoy was another key player, putting up ten points.

Powdersville's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35.8 points. As for Palmetto, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Powdersville beat Palmetto by a score of 83-55 on Tuesday.
