Softball Recap: Newman Smith Trojans vs. Highland Park Scots

Newman Smith extended their losing streak to 20 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-20. They came up short against the Highland Park Scots, falling 19-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Scots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-1 back in March.

As for Highland Park, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 16-9. The result was nothing new for the Scots, who have now won 12 games by ten runs or more so far this season.

For Highland Park's part, Emma Hyde made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hyde was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Highland Park let Maryn Muntz and Shannon Hart run wild. Muntz went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Hart went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those four runs gave Muntz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Gilliam, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
