Football Recap: Cannon County Comes Up Short

The Cannon County Lions came up short against the Clay County Bulldogs on Friday and fell 30-21. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Cannon County lost, don't look at Eli Garrett. Despite the final result, he threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes. The Lions are 2-1 when Garrett posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. A healthy portion of Garrett's aerial production (128 yards to be exact) went to Miles Alexander, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Cannon County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Clay County, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Coming up, Cannon County is taking a road trip to square off against Smith County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Clay County, they will be playing at home against Middle Tennessee Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
