Baseball Recap: Oxnard Find Success

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Oxnard ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Ventura Cougars. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Yellowjackets as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Diego Ahumada tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Oxnard is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jordan Garcia, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Steven Lira was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Oxnard's win bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Ventura, their loss was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-16.

Oxnard will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cougars: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
