Baseball Game Preview: Bessemer City Yellow Jackets vs. Shelby Golden Lions

Bessemer City is 1-6 against Shelby since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bessemer City Yellow Jackets will face off against the Shelby Golden Lions at 6:00 p.m. Bessemer City will be strutting in after a win while Shelby will be coming in after a loss.

Bessemer City took a 13-run defeat the last time they faced off against Huss, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Bessemer City's pitchers stepped up to hand Huss a 2-0 shutout on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Yellow Jackets have posted since February 26, 2024.

Bessemer City's win was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Justin Short, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Short is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's stole at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Shelby was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 11-6 to Lincolnton.

Shelby's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Bessemer City, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Bessemer City came up short against Shelby when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 10-5. Can Bessemer City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
