The Peotone Blue Devils will venture away from home to challenge the Marian Catholic Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Peotone barely beat Lisle the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Blue Devils' pitcher stepped up to hand the Lions a 7-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Blue Devils, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Sophie Klawitter made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Kosmos, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jillian Roark, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
While Marian Catholic didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-23), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Chicago Christian on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.
Like Peotone, Marian Catholic also got a great game from a two-way player: Gracie Jensen. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Jensen was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Mya Davis and Kendyl Rainey did most of the damage at the plate: Davis scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Rainey scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Davis a new career-high. Maeve Welsh also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Marian Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Peotone's record is now 5-6. As for Marian Catholic, their record now sits at 6-4.
Peotone came up short against Marian Catholic in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, falling 10-5. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
