Soccer Game Preview: Corning vs. Live Oak

Corning and Live Oak are an even 4-4-1 against one another since January of 2015, but likely not for long. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Corning challenge the Live Oak at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Corning's last three matches have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Corning is headed into the game having not lost since December 13 and will look to keep things rolling. They won by a goal and slipped past Las Plumas 2-1. Jay Rodriguez had to tread lightly for part of the match after he was hit with a yellow card, but that was the only trouble the Cardinals got from the refs.

Osbaldo Flores and Alidio Diaz scored both of Corning's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 20 goals.

Meanwhile, after soaring to four goals the game before, Live Oak was a bit more limited in their contest on Saturday. They fell just short of Rio Linda by a score of 1-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Lions haven't been shut out since back in December of 2024.

Corning is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-1-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 38 goals over those 11 games. As for Live Oak, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5-2.
