Cornerstone Charter is 0-4 against Piedmont Classical since December of 2023 but things could change on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Cornerstone Charter Cardinals face off against the Piedmont Classical Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. Cornerstone Charter is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.6 points per game this season.
Last Thursday, Cornerstone Charter had to suffer through a 76-48 loss at the hands of Winston-Salem Prep. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 391st, while the Phoenix are ranked 139th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Lake Bristol, who went 8 of 12 en route to 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charles Walker, who posted 12 points and three steals.
Meanwhile, Piedmont Classical ended up a good deal behind Carver last Friday and lost 68-52.
Like Piedmont Classical, they lost despite seeing results from several players. Jayden McCullum led the charge by putting up 11 points and seven rebounds. McCullum has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Bryson Motley, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 12 points and three steals.
Even though they lost, Piedmont Classical was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carver only racked up ten assists.
Piedmont Classical's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Cornerstone Charter, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cornerstone Charter has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 31.5 boards per game. However, it's not like Piedmont Classical struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
