Basketball Game Preview: Holy Name Green Wave vs. Cloverleaf Colts

The Holy Name Green Wave will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Cloverleaf Colts at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Friday, Holy Name ended up a good deal behind Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy and lost 42-27. The match marked the Green Wave's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, Cloverleaf's undefeated season came to an end after eight games on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 44-43 to Field. The loss put an end to the Colts' undefeated start to the season.

Holy Name will have to contain Evie Barth as she made an impact in Cloverleaf's last game. She posted 18 points and eight rebounds. Barth's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Kinsey Bayer was another key player, putting up five points.

Even though they lost, Cloverleaf smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 11 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Cloverleaf fell to 8-1. As for Holy Name, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

Holy Name came up short against Cloverleaf in their previous matchup back in February of 2018, falling 55-47. Thankfully for Holy Name, Lisa Wangler (who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 18 boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
