Basketball Game Preview: Monessen Greyhounds vs. Serra Catholic Eagles

The Monessen Greyhounds will venture away from home to square off against the Serra Catholic Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Monessen has given up an average of 60.2 points per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

In Friday's Canine Competition, Monessen had to take the L. They had to suffer through a 67-29 loss at the hands of Neighborhood Academy. The Greyhounds have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, Serra Catholic humbled Geibel Catholic with a 98-69 victory. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 29 points or more this season.

Serra Catholic's win came from a few key players Monessen will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tyler Sapida, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 20 rebounds. Those 20 boards gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kris Sharp, who went 10-for-22 en route to 26 points and three steals.

Serra Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They are 4-1 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Monessen's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Serra Catholic, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Monessen lost to Serra Catholic on the road by a decisive 74-55 margin when the teams last played back in January. Can the Greyhounds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
