Basketball Game Preview: Calvary Christian Academy Lions vs. Spruce Creek Hawks

The Calvary Christian Academy Lions will head out to challenge the Spruce Creek Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Calvary Christian Academy is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Oviedo on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Calvary Christian Academy came up short against Oviedo, falling 57-31. Calvary Christian Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Keeva Heggins, who posted 14 points along with six boards and three steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Naviyah Daniels also deserves some recognition as she posted her first blocks of the season.

Meanwhile, Spruce Creek was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 56-51 to New Smyrna Beach. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while the Barracudas are ranked 17th).

Spruce Creek has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season. As for Calvary Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.

Calvary Christian Academy might still be hurting after the 49-25 defeat they got from Spruce Creek in their previous meeting back in December of 2015. Can Calvary Christian Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
