Softball Preview: Ysleta Indians vs. Horizon Scorpions
Ysleta is 10-0 against Horizon since March of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Ysleta Indians will head out on the road to challenge the Horizon Scorpions at 6:30 p.m. Ysleta is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Ysleta put the finishing touches on their 17th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They blew past Bel Air 20-5.
Jenna Leanos made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (she also didn't allow any walks). Leanos was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Ysleta got a massive performance out of Janelle Leanos, who went 3-for-3 with six RBI, a run, and a double. Cienna Hernandez was another key contributor, going 1-for-2 with a home run, three runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Horizon pushed their score all the way to 11 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They wound up on the wrong side of a tough 21-11 walloping at the hands of Hanks. Horizon has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hannah Flores made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Arleth Munoz, who got on base in four of her seven plate appearances with an RBI.
Ysleta's victory bumped their record up to 22-1-1. As for Horizon, their loss dropped their record down to 9-13.
Thursday's match will be a test for both team's pitchers. Ysleta hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .422. However, it's not like Horizon struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
