Baseball Recap: Hersey Comes Up Short

Hersey dropped their record down to 17-4-1 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Barrington Fillies/Broncos by a score of 3-2. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Fillies/Broncos apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Riley Blackwell was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Keegan Luxem was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

As for Barrington, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Barrington's side, Jack Postma spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits.

At the plate, Barrington saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Roberts, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Coming up, Hersey will venture away from home to challenge Glenbrook South at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Huskies are facing the Titans at the right time seeing as the Titans are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Barrington, they will host Whitney Young at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
