Cannon is 10-0 against Covenant Day since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Cannon Cougars duke it out with the Covenant Day Lions at 5:30 p.m. Cannon knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Covenant Day likes a good challenge.
Cannon is returning to their home court after beating Charlotte Latin on theirs, despite the fact Charlotte Latin has dominated at home this season. Cannon blew past Charlotte Latin 64-31 on Wednesday. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-15.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cannon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madison Drayton, who went 6 for 10 en route to 19 points and five steals. Drayton has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jakaila Gaskin, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards.
Cannon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive games.
Covenant Day has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 46-42 heartbreaker at the hands of Charlotte Latin.
Cannon will have to keep a close watch on Charlotte Hall and Avery Houseton, a pair of players who had a big impact on Covenant Day's prior game. Hall went 5 of 8 on her way to 13 points and six rebounds, while Houseton posted 13 points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Hall a new career-high in assists (three).
Cannon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Covenant Day, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cannon has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.5 boards per game. However, it's not like Covenant Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Cannon against Covenant Day in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, as the squad secured a 78-15 victory. Will Cannon repeat their success, or does Covenant Day have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
