Softball Game Preview: Lago Vista Vikings vs. LBJ Austin Jaguars

The Lago Vista Vikings will face off against the LBJ Austin Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Lago Vista's favor as the squad sits on seven straight wins at home while LBJ Austin has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Lago Vista's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Austin Achieve with a sharp 24-0 win. Considering the Vikings have won ten matches by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Winter Callahan made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mikayla Vasquez was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Ellie Helton was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Lago Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .757. They are 7-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for LBJ Austin's offense. They came up short against Manor New Tech on Wednesday, falling 15-0.

Lago Vista has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for LBJ Austin, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
