The Largo Packers will head out to face off against the Tarpon Springs Spongers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Largo is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Lakewood get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory on Wednesday. While the Packers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Paige Sofge made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Miranda Rollins was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Four bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Kaitlin Cheng was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2.
Largo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Tarpon Springs, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They put the hurt on St. Petersburg with a sharp 24-9 win on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Spongers considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Paige Viegut was a standout: she scored five runs while going 4-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Brylee Housh, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances.
Tarpon Springs has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. Largo's record is now 7-3.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Largo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Tarpon Springs struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Largo took their victory against Tarpon Springs in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 13-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Largo since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
