Volleyball Recap: Falconer's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

After a string of seven wins, Falconer's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They came up short against the Portville Panthers, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Golden Falcons have suffered since September 22nd.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-13, 25-18.

Falconer's offense was headlined by Hannah Melquist and Emily Zaranek, who picked up six kills apiece. They got some help from Reagan Trask and her 11 assists.

Leading Portville to victory were Mia Rhinehart and Ali Haynes. Rhinehart had 13 digs and one assist, while Haynes hit 58.8% for 22 kills and 13 digs, five blocks, and five aces. Haynes is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in each of the last 28 games she's played.

The loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 14-3. As for Portville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-2-2 record this season.

Falconer and Portville should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Golden Falcons will take on Jamestown at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (26 vs. 247). Meanwhile, Portville (ranked fourth) will meet Olean (ranked 67th) at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
