Basketball Preview: Thomas Jefferson Gryphons vs. Burns Bulldogs

The Thomas Jefferson Gryphons will head out on the road to square off against the Burns Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Thomas Jefferson is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.

Thomas Jefferson pushed their score all the way to 69 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 77-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bessemer City. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (55), Thomas Jefferson still had to take the loss.

Meanwhile, even though Highland Tech scored an imposing 60 points on Tuesday, Burns still came out on top. Burns took their contest against the Rams 73-60. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 18 to 5 on the offensive boards, as Burns did.

Burns got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kenyon Surratt out in front who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Surratt has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Self, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds.

Thomas Jefferson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Burns, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season.

Things could have been worse for Thomas Jefferson, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 72-57 loss to the Bulldogs when the teams last played back in January. Can Thomas Jefferson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
