Preview: Widefield Gladiators vs. Palmer Terrors

Widefield is 1-7 against Palmer since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Widefield Gladiators will head out on the road to face off against the Palmer Terrors at 1:00 p.m. on February 10th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.

Widefield came into Friday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They took down Coronado 57-43 on Friday. The victory was just what Widefield needed coming off of a 77-51 defeat in their prior match.

Meanwhile, Palmer put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 77-51 margin over Widefield. Given Palmer's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Widefield is ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Walker Asp, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Yunker, who scored eight points along with five assists and five rebounds.

Widefield's victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-17. As for Palmer, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

Widefield might still be hurting after the 77-51 defeat they got from Palmer in their previous meeting on Wednesday. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Asp, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. Now that Widefield knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
