Softball Game Preview: Council Grove Braves vs. Hillsboro Trojans

The Council Grove Braves will face off against the Hillsboro Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

On Friday, Council Grove made easy work of Lyndon and carried off a 16-6 victory. Considering the Braves have won five games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaedyn Litke was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Litke was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in March.

In other batting news, Shanyn Miller was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in March. Neenah Hesterman was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

Council Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Hillsboro not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th (when they won 19-5). They put the hurt on Nickerson with a sharp 15-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Trojans.

Council Grove's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Hillsboro, their win bumped their record up to 6-14.

Council Grove took their victory against Hillsboro in their previous meeting back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 11-3 score. Do the Braves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
