Basketball Recap: Make It Two in a Row for Rapides

Bolton Academy came into Monday's contest looking for another win against Rapides, but Zayveian Johnson wouldn't allow it. The Mustangs breezed past the Bears to the tune of 73-25 on Monday with plenty of help from Johnson, who shot 53% from the field on his way to 29 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Rapides' points.

Another player making a difference was Karion Johnson, who posted four points and 12 boards. Rapides is undefeated when Johnson posts ten or more rebounds, but 4-13 otherwise.

Bolton Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler August, who earned three points and six boards.

The victory made it two in a row for Rapides and bumps their season record up to 7-13. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points over those games. As for Bolton Academy, they dropped their record down to 4-20 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road.

Coming up, Rapides will take on Avoyelles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rapides will need to watch out since Avoyelles has now posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Bolton Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Basile at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
