Basketball Recap: Zaya Lewis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. Paul over Cozad

St. Paul was the 41-29 winner over Cozad when they last played one another back in December of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The St. Paul Wildcats took a 48-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cozad Haymakers on Monday. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zaya Lewis, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds. Lewis has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Aubree Fitzgerald was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to six blocks and five boards.

Even though they lost, St. Paul smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in November of 2023.

St. Paul's record is now 7-14. As for Cozad, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 6-18.

St. Paul does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cozad, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 70-21 loss against Milford on the 20th.
