Basketball Recap: Hephzibah Rebels vs. Baldwin Braves
Hephzibah was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 55-45 defeat to the Baldwin Braves. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 392nd, while the Braves are ranked 79th).
Despite the loss, Hephzibah saw an underclassman step up: sophomore JAMARCUS SALMOND posted 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of JUSTUS MAYS, who earned ten points.
Deven Nelson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Baldwin, going 12 for 19 on his way to 27 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. Another player making a difference was Karez Demory, who put up ten points and three steals.
Hephzibah's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Baldwin, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4.
Hephzibah will look to defend their home court on Friday against Howard at 7:30 p.m. As for Baldwin, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 78-37 win against Aquinas on the 7th.
