Basketball Recap: Miguel Rosa Jr's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Abraham Lincoln over Simon Gratz

Abraham Lincoln was the 59-58 winner over Simon Gratz when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Abraham Lincoln Railsplitters fell 64-57 to the Simon Gratz Bulldogs on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Railsplitters can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 296th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 142nd).

Several Railsplitters players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Miguel Rosa Jr, who posted 18 points. Rosa Jr is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last three games he's played. Jayden Ortiz-Muhammad was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Simon Gratz had a senior duo take command as Nasir Mackely put up 24 points and Sihaaj Johnson scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mackely has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rakim Johnson, who earned seven points.

Abraham Lincoln's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Simon Gratz, their victory was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-4.

Abraham Lincoln does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Simon Gratz, they will be playing at home against Audenried at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Simon Gratz is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.3 points per game this season.
