Thurston took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They strolled past Caldera with points to spare, taking the game 45-29.

A big part of the win came down to the chemistry between Noah Blair and his top target Matthew Newell. Blair threw for 382 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 14.1 yards per attempt while Newell picked up 256 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Newell was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 65 yards.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Thurston was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 498 total yards. That's the most total yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.

Thurston's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Cruz Gray and Aiden Clark who racked up five sacks between them. Clark didn't just play on offense: he also picked up two sacks and made two total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Thurston will face off against South Eugene at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Caldera, they will welcome Pendleton/Nixyaawii Community at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
