Soccer Game Preview: Monacan vs. Powhatan

The Monacan Chiefs will head out on the road to challenge the Powhatan Indians at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Monacan will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Monacan barely beat L.C. Bird the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Chiefs blew past the Skyhawks 5-2 on Monday. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 3-0.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Powhatan's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 5-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Clover Hill.

Monacan pushed their record up to 10-5-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored nine goals over those three games. As for Powhatan, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.

Monacan skirted past Powhatan 2-1 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chiefs since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
