Casa Grande has gone 8-2 against Napa recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Gauchos will be playing in front of their home fans against the Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Casa Grande has seven straight wins, Napa has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Casa Grande was able to grind out a solid victory over Vintage, taking the game 9-4.
Lila Partridge spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Veronica Nunez-Miller, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby McSweeney, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Casa Grande was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .417 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Napa came up short against Sonoma Valley on Wednesday, falling 16-6.
Napa saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooklyn Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Miller has launched this season. Lauren Nicklas was another, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Casa Grande pushed their record up to 17-5-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Napa, their loss dropped their record down to 4-18.
Napa's pitching crew better be locked in on Friday. Casa Grande hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. It's a different story for Napa, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Casa Grande in the park?
Everything went Casa Grande's way against Napa in their previous meeting back in April, as Casa Grande made off with an 18-2 win. Do the Gauchos have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Grizzlies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
