Basketball Game Preview: Albuquerque Bulldogs vs. Cibola Cougars

The Albuquerque Bulldogs just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Cibola Cougars at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Albuquerque knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Cibola likes a good challenge.

Albuquerque is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Atrisco Heritage Academy, who was ranked 15th at the time (Albuquerque was ranked sixth). Albuquerque was the clear victor by a 72-51 margin over Atrisco Heritage Academy on Friday. The score was close at the half, but the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half with 44 points.

Cibola has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 65-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cleveland on Thursday.

Albuquerque is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.6 points over those games. As for Cibola, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-6.

Albuquerque strolled past Cibola when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a score of 76-62. Will Albuquerque repeat their success, or does Cibola have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
