In position to start 4-0 with wins over three standout programs, Kerrville Tivy finally meets its match in Lake Travis.
Remember what they say about things that look too good to be true?
At 3-0,
Tivy (Kerrville) was one of the state's hottest-starting teams. After hanging 71 on undermanned
Fredericksburg, the Antlers then took down area 5A standouts
Madison (San Antonio) and
Steele (Cibolo) before setting their sights on
Lake Travis (Austin), a three-time defending state champion in Tivy's class, 4A.

It was a road game for Tivy, but the Cavaliers came in a wounded foe, having seen their 48-game winning streak end the week before at the hands of
Aledo and playing once again without injured quarterback
Michael Brewer. And when the scoreboard quickly read Tivy 19, Lake Travis 0 ... well, it all looked too good to be true for the Antlers.
Backup quarterback
Colin Lagasse threw for four touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Cavaliers' comeback, and he iced Lake Travis' 37-33 victory from his usual position, defensive back, by intercepting a
Johnny Manziel pass at the goal line with 2:23 remaining.
As always, Manziel made his mark as well. He threw for 195 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 272 yards and four scores.
Will there be a rematch in the Region IV-4A playoffs? Probably not. Tivy likely will be in the Division II playoffs; Lake Travis is the defending Division I champion after winning two straight in Division II.

2. Another losing streak ends: One week after
Eastside Memorial (Austin) ended a 43-game losing streak (a combination of on-field losses and forfeits by the former Johnston), the Panthers traveled to San Antonio to take on
San Antonio Memorial, which had lost 43 straight on the field (officially picking up one win via forfeit). This time, it was the Minutemen's turn to celebrate after a 19-13 victory that came with plenty of drama. After Eastside Memorial tied the score at 13 on two long fourth-quarter runs by Desmine Shaw, Memorial took the ball downfield and got the winning score on a 6-yard run by quarterback Nigel Cardenas with 11 seconds left.
3. Rattlers continue to roll: In a matchup of two top San Antonio volleyball teams,
Reagan (San Antonio) came back from a 10-5 deficit in the fifth game for a 23-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-13, 16-14 victory over
MacArthur (San Antonio). It was the Rattlers' 34th consecutive district win and left them 31-4 overall.
4. Stony Point statement: After taking some heat for two early wins over schools from Mexico,
Stony Point (Round Rock) asserted itself as one of the area's top teams by traveling north to
DeSoto and rallying for a 46-29 victory. The Tigers trailed 29-26 in the third period.
5. Outside Austin/San Antonio: Near-record rainfall wreaked havoc in the Corpus Christi area and caused problems at the area's top matchup, but
Calallen (Corpus Christi) fought through the conditions for a 29-0 rout of
Carroll (Corpus Christi) ...
Trent Jackson shrugged off the rain and ran for a career-best 385 yards and four touchdowns as 3A
Cuero knocked off 4A
Calhoun (Port Lavaca) 34-21.
TOP PERFORMERS(Non Johnny Manziel/Trent Jackson division)
* Trevon Campbell, Holmes (San Antonio): The Huskies are a surprising 3-1, thanks in large part to Campbell. He ran for 243 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-18 victory over
Taft (San Antonio), his third game with at least 240 yards this season.
* Lewis Guilbeau, Westlake (Austin): Facing an unheard-of 0-4 start, the Chaparrals leaned on their quarterback, and Gilbeau responded with 362 total yards and five touchdowns (two passing, three rushing) in a 59-35 win over
Pflugerville.
