Basketball Recap: Lordsburg Falls Despite Big Games from Aaron Salazar and Daniel Scott

After flying high against Capitan last Saturday, Lordsburg came back down to earth. The Lordsburg Mavericks took a 66-47 bruising from the Cloudcroft Bears on Thursday. The Mavericks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bears earlier this season, when they won 57-43.

Lordsburg's loss came despite strong showings from Daniel Scott and Aaron Salazar. Scott made all 5 shots he took racking up 13 points and eight rebounds, while Salazar went 6 of 12 on his way to 15 points. The dominant performance gave Scott a new career-high in points. Cameron Saucedo was another key player, putting up seven points.

It was another big night for Rylee Pahl, who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine boards for Cloudcroft. The contest was Pahl's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Adlai Gutierrez also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Lordsburg's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Cloudcroft, they moved to 9-11 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Lordsburg has already played their next match, an 81-58 win against Mescalero Apache on the 1st. As for Cloudcroft, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 71-47 victory against Capitan on the 4th.
