Baseball Game Preview: Central Catholic Buttons vs. Alexander Bulldogs

The Central Catholic Buttons will face off against the Alexander Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Central Catholic 2.5, Alexander 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Central Catholic took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over Alexander.

Matt McClenan was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Garrett Ticer, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Luke Ramos was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3.

Alexander's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Central Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3-1 record this season.
