Softball Recap: Baker Beats St. Paul's Episcopal for Their Seventh Straight Victory

Baker came tearing into Tuesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the St. Paul's Episcopal Saints. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-0 last Friday.

Madison Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nola Havard, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Kaylee Boddie was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base.

Baker's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for St. Paul's Episcopal, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Looking ahead, Baker will face off against Fairhope at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fairhope's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Baker's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Paul's Episcopal, they will challenge Apollo at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday.
