Basketball Recap: Stella Metcalf Key Part of a Team Effort in Red Wolves Win

Cedarcrest's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 59-42 win over the Klahowya Eagles.

Cedarcrest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Stella Metcalf led the charge by putting up seven points along with 14 steals and eight assists. Metcalf has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Avery Dice was another key player, going 7 for 8 on her way to 15 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Cedarcrest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Klahowya's loss came despite strong showings from Caroline Horan and Bailey O'Brien. Horan posted 12 points, while O'Brien had 17 points and eight rebounds. Horan continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Wegleitner, who put up seven points.

Cedarcrest now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Klahowya, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Cedarcrest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 42-20 defeat against Meridian on the 21st. As for Klahowya, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-17 victory against Evergreen on the 20th.
