Basketball Game Preview: Goddard Lions vs. Andover Trojans

Goddard is 1-9 against Andover since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Goddard Lions will welcome the Andover Trojans at 7:30 p.m.

Goddard is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 56 points last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Salina Central on Tuesday. The contest between them and the Mustangs didn't end well, with Goddard falling 48-29.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Andover, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They breezed by Eisenhower to the tune of 70-35 on Tuesday. With the Trojans ahead 36-16 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Goddard better focus on containing Walker McClellan and Joshua Kim as the pair were huge in Andover's win. McClellan made all 6 shots he took for 15 points and eight rebounds, while Kim went 8 of 16 on his way to 20 points. The matchup was Kim's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Griffin Hand, who posted ten points.

Andover pushed their record up to 1-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.1 points per game. As for Goddard, they now also have a losing record at 1-2.

Goddard lost to Andover at home by a decisive 85-66 margin in their previous meeting back in February. Can Goddard avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
