Softball Game Preview: Key West Conchs vs. Mater Bay Academy Rays

The Key West Conchs will take on the Mater Bay Academy Rays at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Key West had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Mater Bay Academy last Wednesday. The Conchs were the clear victors by a 20-5 margin over the Rays. The Conchs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Brianna Brenner looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Tavyn Gage was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-6. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Kaleaya Dickerson was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.

Key West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Key West is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Mater Bay Academy, with the victory, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-9.
